April 27th - Phil Beer and Guests

www.philbeer.co.uk
Phil has played here with his band twice now. He is a talented musician , playing Violin, Guitar and Mandolin to name but a few, in addition to writing and singing his own material. His talents have been utilised by countless artists over the years. Tonight he plays with guests Miranda Sykes and Isambarde !
Paul Sampson and Bill Cox Martin have been residents of Ebbesbourne Wake for some years now, Paul living at the far end of the village, at West End, whilst Bill occupies a strategic position next to the pub (Horseshoe Inn). The idea behind bringing live music to the village was inspired by a beer-fuelled conversation at a barbecue in the summer of 2002 when the possibility of inviting Show of Hands to play in the village rather than us travelling to see them was brought up. Despite the beer Paul remembered to contact them and much to our surprise they agreed to play an "On the Level" gig in the spring of 2003. This sold out and on the basis of this success we booked more acts for 2003 including Mike Silver and Little Johnny England and have continued in this vein since. We put on 5 or 6 gigs a year, generally in the Spring and the Autumn.
Bill Cox Martin, Tony Bath, Landlord of the Horseshoe Inn, and Paul Sampson console themselves with a beer following Englands exit from the World Cup!

Chris While & Julie Matthews - are breathtaking singers, songwriters, musicians and performers whose dedication to their craft and audience holds no bounds. Though internationally acclaimed, they continue to be a leading force on the UK's acoustic/roots arts circuit. Their songs cover life as they see it, from the industrial waste lands of the north, to injustice and freedom, matters of the heart and everything in between. Their songs are covered by many revered singers the world over but it is While & Matthews' musical partnership and obvious joy of performing together that really brings their songs to life. As performers they are unrivalled and their audiences leave their concerts having been through every emotion possible.

Colvin Quarmby

www.colvin.freeserve.co.uk
Colvin Quarmby are a four-piece band from the UK featuring the songwriting talents of Gerry Colvin, a man who has rubbed shoulders with some of the finest.Colvin Quarmby has played on the Ebbesbourne stage three times now. The live show is spontaneous - often very lively and always amusing. To overstate the humour and tongue-in-cheek delivery style though would be to ignore the strength of this band and most importantly, Colvin's material. The songs are crafted with incredibly evocative lyrics which can touch the soul in a most powerful way. This power is the more enhanced due to the consistent performances of a great band featuring Dave Dutfield on Guitars and Backing Vocals and Martin Fitzgibbon on Drums and Backing Vocals. Founder member Nick Quarmby provides Bass, Acoustic Guitar and Backing Vocals.
