Paul Sampson and Bill Cox Martin have been residents of Ebbesbourne Wake
for some years now, Paul living at the far end of the village, at West End, whilst Bill occupies a
strategic position next to the pub (Horseshoe Inn). The idea behind bringing live music to the village
was inspired by a beer-fuelled conversation at a barbecue in the summer of 2002 when the possibility
of inviting Show of Hands to play in the village rather than us travelling to see them was brought up.
Despite the beer Paul remembered to contact them and much to our surprise they agreed to play an
"On the Level" gig in the spring of 2003. This sold out and on the basis of this success we booked
more acts for 2003 including Mike Silver and Little Johnny England and have continued in this vein since.
We put on 5 or 6 gigs a year, generally in the Spring and the Autumn.
